Freedom in Movement

My work is an expression of movement, balance and color as realized thru structural compositions.  Mobiles and Stabiles are delicate expressions of how art can catch the eye, then hold it as the viewer becomes engaged with the possibilities of how the next breath of air will alter the form and relationship of the hanging elements.  I truly enjoy bringing each piece to life, sharing them with others and then letting them free so they can bring serenity to their new homes

Each piece is individually designed and constructed in the studio; no two pieces are the same as I am always looking to create a fresh mood. The first consideration is always a visually appealing completed work.   Once size and structure are determined, color becomes the next consideration followed by the intricacies of each level of the composition.  At this point, I view individual tubes as separate works of art which will harmoniously fuse in the final structure. When the individual elements are complete it is time to bring them together.  Artistic balance takes on a very real meaning here as each element is steadied and supported by the next in a deliberate attempt to defy visual equilibrium. Ken explores the composition and movement of tethered objects.  His approach challenges the traditional tactics and form of mobiles and stabiles.

Born in New York, he received his early self-directed art education in the galleries and coffeehouses of the day.  Over the years those early art experiences stayed with him as a writer, in ‘found object’ construction and as a leaded glass artist.  !

His new offerings of ‘suspended works’, were first shown at the Crucible in Oakland, California and now freshly available for a broader audience.  Ken combines cylindrical forms with aluminum and blown glass to create objects in motion which float and change with the moods of night or day.
